Jose Sanchez — who said that he is happy, but a little scared — looks up at his new daughter, Katherine, while holding her twin sister, Karen, in the Neonatal Internsive Care Unit at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital Sunday, Jan. 01, 2012 while their mother, Maria Contreras, recovers in her hospital room. The girls were the first babies born in Yakima in 2012. Karen weighed 4.4 pounds and Katherine 4.9 pounds. They were delivered by cesarean section 2:40 a.m. The sororal twins are the Sunnyside couple’s fifth and sixth children. Both parents are employees at Washington Beef in Toppenish.
